It honestly didn’t take me long to get behind this OTP and believe that they were meant for each other. Whether our OTP is just getting to know each other, or falling head over heels in love, or working through angst, their chemistry feels deep and natural and completely believable. Whatever the magic behind the magic, Jang Hyuk and Jang Na Ra convey a nuance and depth in their onscreen interactions that really magnifies the emotional resonance of their characters and their relationship.Īt every stage of Gun’s and Mi Young’s relationship, their chemistry feels so real and appropriate to the moment. Maybe it’s coz Jang Hyuk and Jang Na Ra have worked together before (Successful Story of a Bright Girl, 2002) and therefore already have an existing rapport maybe it’s coz they are both consummate professionals who immerse themselves so deeply in character that they actually feel their characters’ feelings maybe it’s a little bit of both.
#SINOPSIS DRAMA CHINA RIVER FLOWS TO YOU SERIES#
His heart is literally in his eyes, and I found it a lovely thing to behold, all series long.

His eyes manage to speak volumes, even when the message is intricate, profound and complex. A sheen of tears a tinge of wistfulness love fear helplessness regret. Jang Hyuk’s expressive eyes are wonderfully expressive, and there are multiple instances in the show where his eyes completely sold the scene for me. That’s what made it possible and easy, even, for me to look beyond the quirky, OTT trappings to see the sensitive, caring, vulnerable man underneath it all. Most importantly, Jang Hyuk gave Gun depth and dimension with his nuanced, expressive, emotionally rich delivery. Jang Hyuk is committed to the funny from start to finish, and gamely goes OTT when the script calls for it, often making the funny bits quite hilarious. And the laugh, well, there were times in Chuno when Dae Gil laughed like that too, so it didn’t bother me too much either.

To future watchers: I don’t know why you would after the atrocious reviews this has (not just mine) but you could try the first 12 episodes and call it a wrap. The long-ish hair sometimes reminded me of the mane of glory on Dae Gil, his character in Chuno (and Jang Hyuk is absolutely, mesmerizingly glorious in Chuno). Show, apologize to The Sword and the Brocade who has to accompany you in my ratings. The maid who is forever jealous: the lord is who is forever in love anyone else who has any other story not about your starlet, move to the side. Why? Because only these two will give neverending spotlight to Jiang Bao Ning. You had all these villains in your deck (the Emperor, Empress Dowager, Qing Tai), but you ignored the kings and queens and jacks, and repeatedly dealt a MAID and a LORD. You couldn’t spare time to develop the palace story because your starlet doesn’t live in the palace. You couldn’t spare time on the war because that would give too many scenes to other actors like your MALE LEAD. Show, you stink for tweaking the plot to make everything revolve around Jiang Bao Ning, your starlet. And it turns out going in circles is better than the turd you dragged me through.ĭirecting went down the gutter. But you ruined your own formula that I thought you knew. For that, I could sit through annoying plot because things were happening and we weren’t going in circles. I liked you because you had an entertaining formula – an interesting lineup of villains and a resilient main couple. You weren’t capable of that which I got from the very beginning and I didn’t care. But no, you dug a tunnel for yourself, well burn in that hole. My bar was so low, all you had to do was walk, or even crawl and you’d climb over it. Jiang Bao Ning doesn't know he's investigating the case and escapes the next day. Meanwhile this girl hates him for not trusting her and keeping her locked in the house is only making things worse.

He also checks up on her at night while she's sleeping. Li Qian wants to believe her but he's struggling with all the information. When Jiang Bao Ning angrily leaves the room, Li Qian speaks up for her in front of Dad Li. How is believing in Jiang Bao Ning's words any different than him believing in a jade and a nun.No one has proof about anything and we're jumping to conclusions. She asks Li Qian if he would believe her if she said her father isn't like that. She's incredulous that they can arrive at that conclusion based on a jade and the nun's testimony. Move on!! He asks about The Diagram, which raises Jiang Bao Ning's suspicions but before she informs Li Qian, Dad Li is home to accuse her father as the murderer/arsonist. Zhao Xiao visits Jiang Bao Ning and notices she's sad.
